Il 14 Agosto di ogni anno, in Piazza Grande a Gubbio, si svolge il Torneo dei Quartieri, la gara di tiro con la balestra antica all'italiana, tra i balestrieri dei 4 quartieri cittadini: San Giuliano, Sant'Andrea, San Pietro e San Martino.

La sfida �� preceduta e seguita dal passaggio, tra le suggestive e caratteristiche vie del centro, dei cortei storici allestiti nei quartieri cittadini che, come d'incanto, fanno un salto indietro nel tempo fino al XIV secolo: il brulichio dei personaggi in costume, fra le medioevali pietre della citt��, sembra quasi far magicamente rivivere, almeno per una notte, antichi stralci di vita quotidiana.

Vera protagonista della manifestazione rimane, per��, la balestra antica all'italiana, l'arma da difesa che rimase in uso fra gli eserciti fin quando non fu soppiantata dalla scoperta della polvere da sparo.

Al termine del Torneo seguono manifestazioni di carattere gastronomico e musicale nella 4 piazze dei quartieri: P.zza Giordano Bruno, P.zza San Giovanni, P.zza San Pietro e P.zza San Marziale.

The Tournament of Districts, the ancient Italian crossbow shooting competition among the crossbowmen of the four urban districts (San Giuliano, Sant'Andrea, San Pietro and San Martino) takes place on the 14th August of each year, in Piazza Grande in Gubbio.

The challenge is preceded and followed by the historical parades crossing the inspiring and characteristic streets of the centre that have been set up in the urban districts, which, as in an enchantment, will step back in time until the 15th century.

The swarm of costume characters, among the medieval stones of the town, almost seems to magically revive, at least for one night, ancient pieces of daily life.

The true protagonist of the festival will be, though, the ancient Italian crossbow, the defence weapon which remained in use among armies until it was replaced by the discovery of the gunpowder.

At the end of the tournament culinary and musical events will follow in the four squares of the districts: P.zza Giordano Bruno, P.zza San Giovanni, P.zza San Pietro and P.zza San Marziale.
