On 29th January Perugia is going to celebrate its own patron Saint, St. Costanzo, with a day rich in appointments among spirituality, tradition, food and wine.

The Umbrian main town is going to recall the Saint with the procession of the ��Luminaria grande��, wanted for the first time by the Priori Council in 1310.

Each year, on the eve of the feast, the tradition gets renewed with a re-enactment that takes the acropolis back in time: the civic and religious authorities parade through the historical centre and bring in homage to the patron saint five presents: the laurel wreath, the candle, the torcolo, the incense and the holy wine.

The next day the celebrations go on with the fair, the historical market-exhibition among typical products and craft, whereas slices of the Torcolo of St. Costanzo, the typical cake of this celebration, will be distributed along Corso Vannucci to all passers-by.

Curiosities

On the day of St. Costanzo, according to the tradition, the young unmarried women, curious to know if they will get married soon, can go to the church devoted to the Patron and observe the game of lights reflected on his picture: the legend tells that if the Saint will wink, the wedding will be celebrated within the year.

Il 29 gennaio Perugia celebra il suo patrono, San Costanzo, con una giornata ricca di appuntamenti tra spiritualit��, tradizione ed enogastronomia.

Il capoluogo umbro ricorda il Santo con il corteo della \"Luminaria grande\", voluta per la prima volta dal Consiglio dei Priori del 1310.

Ogni anno, la vigilia della festa, la tradizione si rinnova con una rievocazione che riporta l'acropoli indietro nel tempo: le autorit�� civili e religiose sfilano per il centro della storico portando in omaggio al patrono cinque doni: la corona d'alloro, il cero, il torcolo, l'incenso e il vin santo.

Il giorno dopo i festeggiamenti proseguono con la fiera, la storica mostra-mercato tra prodotti tipici e artigianato, mentre in Corso Vannucci saranno distribuite a tutti i passanti fette del Torcolo di San Costanzo, il dolce tipico di questa ricorrenza.

Il giorno di San Costanzo, secondo la tradizione, le giovani nubili curiose di sapere se saranno presto spose, possono recarsi nella chiesa dedicata al Patrono e osservare il gioco di luci riflesse sulla sua immagine: la leggenda racconta che se il Santo far�� l'occhiolino, le nozze si celebreranno entro l'anno.
