Un corteo storico, l'investitura dei cavalieri, l'esibizione degli sbandieratori e vari spettacoli rievocativi dell'epoca medievale, tra cui la solenne "pesatura dei ceri per l’offerta al Santo": questi sono gli avvenimenti che caratterizzeranno la 45a edizione della Giostra dell'Arme, moderna riproposizione dell'antico torneo cavalleresco del XIV secolo.
Per rendere onore al Santo patrono, la San Gemini si trasforma, fa un salto nel passato con l'apertura delle antiche botteghe e delle taverne, e si colora di rossoblù e biancoverde, i colori dei due Rioni che si dividono la città.L'evento principale è naturalmente il torneo: come ogni anno, i cavalieri del Rione Rocca e del Rione Piazza si sfideranno nel torneo equestre che li vedrà impegnati nel lanciarsi al galoppo per infilare in un anello di soli 5 centimetri le loro lance, per poi scagliarla sull'"arme", lo scudo gentilizio che dà il nome all'intera manifestazione, per guadagnarsi il Palio d'argento destinato al vincitore della sfida.
For two weeks, from 29th September to 14th October, San Gemini is going to pay tribute to its patron saint, with one of the most important historical re-enactments in Italy.
A historical procession, the investiture of the knights, the exhibition of flag-wavers and various medieval shows, including the solemn "weighing of candles for the offer to the Saint": these are the events that will characterize the 45th edition of the Joust of Arms, a modern revival of the ancient knightly tournament of the fourteenth century. In order to honour the patron saint, San Gemini will transform itself, will make a leap into the past with the opening of the old shops and taverns, and will turn red-blue and green-and-white, the colours of the two districts that divide the city.
The main event is of course the tournament: as every year, the knights of the Districts Rocca and Piazza will compete in the equestrian tournament that will see them engaged in galloping to slip their spears into a ring of only 5 centimetres, and then hurl it on 'arms', the noble shield that gives its name to the entire event, in order to earn the Silver Palio intended for the winner of the challenge.
